Our client came to us with the intention of remodelling a corner of their back garden. It housed an old glass pained greenhouse which had fallen into a state of decay and disrepair. Most panes of glass were broken and it was structurally unsafe. After discussing what would make the best use of the area, we came up with the idea of a gazebo as the corner attracts the setting sun on summer evenings, making for a lovely seating area.

Work commenced, so within a short time the old greenhouse was removed completely. We marked out the area and dug a suitable foundation then filled with concrete ready to accommodate the new brick base. Reclaimed victorian bricks were selected as they perfectly match the current style of garden, matching the adjacent brick barbecue and reclaimed blue brick paths. The next task after completing the brickwork was to install the timber framework of the structure. 4” round posts were raised from each corner with supports underneath. Subsequently, the wall plate was attached and roof tiling could commence. The use of cedar wood shingles provides a traditional and subtle roofline appearance and provides a highly durable roof due to the high resin content within the timber. They were secured with stainless steel nails, special hip tiles (used on each edge) and then it was finished off with a brass finial. Many different types of flooring were suggested however we chose to use a mosaic victorian floor tile as they give a striking appearance visually and complement the rest of the structure. Final touches included fitting of lights around the perimeter and installing a plug socket to the inside.

All of the works were carried out by swarbourn landscapes within a 3 week time frame.
